The Performing Arts Channel

An Overview

New Century TV and LifeACT International are collaborating on an exciting new project which will produce programming for performing artists by performing artists about performing artists. Our objective is to provide a channel where the performing artist can go for education, inspiration and business advice at a minimal cost to the viewer.

The project is intended to help YOU THE ARTIST find value in your work and strategically market it to an international audience of artists. The artists we are looking for seek to provide to their audience the opportunity to learn and grow without limitation while cultivating a deep appreciation for what truly insightful art is. The Performing Arts Channel will also chronicle and celebrate each artist’s individual journey toward this success.

Artists are encouraged to submit a resume, headshot (if applicable), and pitch letter to us for upcoming internet television, DVD/Cd distribution, theater production, and seminar series workshops.

Featured on the Performing Arts Channel will be…

The Life Artist Show

A combination talk show/documentary for emerging artists seeking solutions to all challenges regarding the artist’s lifestyle. Topics will include everything from mastering the audition to international marketing to finding one’s emotional center in a world of confusing backstage politics.

An example of a pitched idea: “How I wrote my one-woman show in 3 one-hour sessions without putting a pen to paper.”

The Life Artist Show also intends to document the inspirational stories of artists “overcoming the odds”. Qualified artists will be creating, writing and performing works that bring vision and self-empowerment to their target audience. We are especially interested in one-woman/one-man shows. Any project where the artist is relying on self initiative is also a potential match for The Life Artist Show. (For instance, stories about actors switching racial or social roles are very compelling if the artist is able to bring a true articulation to this concept.)

An example of a pitched idea: “How I used comedy improvisation to heal depression and suicide in my community.”

Arts Education

We are also seeking teachers who can captivate an audience, bringing a unique vision to the art of drama, film-making or stage craft. Regardless of whether you’re a Juilliard professor or inventor of your own technique, we’d like to document you teaching either within a small, intimate group or in the lecture hall. Our intention is to provide options for the artist to learn and grow from likable teachers.

An example of a pitched idea: “7 Techniques on How Improvised Drama Can Bring to YOU Emotional Mastery.”

Original Performance Piece

If you’re a writer or a part of a theater group with a compelling, original performance piece that you like to share with the world - please submit a pitch letter citing how the performance piece ties into the following values:

  • emotional intelligence;
  • artistic understanding;
  • social justice;
  • personal growth;
  • or the psychological and/or spiritual elements of good story telling.

For our purposes, we will break up the piece into episodes featuring “round robin” discussions with the writers and actors involved in the piece.

An example of a pitched idea from a playwright: “‘Desire to be famous is cancer: The ‘Crystal Weeds’ Story.” Four actresses, the semblances of Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Dorothy Lamour and Natalie Wood live in modern day NYC as roommates. Play focuses on young women in show-business and the quest for creative freedom in spite of gender stereotyping.”

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I apply?

Please send your headshot, resume and a one-page pitch letter to:

LifeACT International
c/o NCTV Performing Arts Channel
P.O. Box 460
Fairview Village, PA 19409

Please tell us briefly about your performing arts experience in your pitch letter.

To apply for the Life Artist Show: Tell us about the challenge you wish to solve or have overcome in your career or life –OR – Tell us about your unique vision and accomplishments as a performing artist.

To apply for Arts Education: Send us a pitch letter describing your experience and teaching philosophy.

To apply for the Original Performance Piece: Describe your role as writer, producer, etc. and tell us how your piece embodies the values we’re looking for. (See above.)

What are the payment arrangements?

The artist who provided us the pitch letter will receive royalties each time their show is viewed (current royalties average 50 cents per one viewing).  Our goal is to raise your royalties as the channel becomes more successful.

We also provide various agreements for the artist to receive a percentage of DVD sales.

New Century TV can also help you distribute a pre-existing DVD that you’ve created if it meets our criteria.  NCTV requests a 10% commission to air the show and link back to your website, or a 25% commission to sell your DVD on the NCTV website.   Any projects that we film “in house” we will pay you, in most cases, half of the DVD sales proceeds after the videographer is paid.  The Life Artist Show might offer a different percentage depending on our time invested in helping you put your topic together.

An agreement will be provided for you to review and sign before the shoot date.

Our intention is to put profits back where they belong – in YOUR pocket.

What happens after I send in my information?

If your proposal sparks our interest, you will receive a call from a LifeACT International representative requesting a preliminary phone interview. If we both agree that your idea is a potential match for the Performing Arts Channel, we’ll call you for an audition in the Philadelphia area. Your audition will include a second interview where you will discuss your idea in further detail.

I’m very interested in the LifeACT/New Century TV Performing Arts Channel, but what if I don’t live in the Philly/NYC/Washington D.C. area?

Send us your information anyway. As our audience base grows and revenue is generated, there could be opportunities for travel. LifeACT International also provides opportunity for CD programming which can be done over long distances.

Do I have to be a full-time artist or actor? Must I be considered a “professional?”

We define “professionalism” as courtesy and a willingness to take direction. If you are an emerging artist seeking to overcome “professional limitations” (i.e. lack of professional credits, union status, etc.) then we are interested in helping you overcome these limitations on The Life Artist Show. All we ask is that you are courteous and feel comfortable being yourself.

We are also looking to do stories about musicians, writers, and performing artists of all disciplines. If you have an interesting story, send us a pitch letter.

If you are a coach or have other insights on personal growth or creativity, we can match you up with another producer looking for your programming options.  New Century TV also has wonderful channels in the works for visual arts, holistic health, spirituality, book writing and poetry.

What if I’m an actor but don’t have any ideas to pitch?

Send us headshots/resumes for our files. Sometimes in the interview process we’ll find a programming idea just by talking to you. We’re looking for special people, not carbon copies of a specific “type”.

We also want to build a showcase for talent. This could prove a useful tool for you and for casting agents.

New Century TV and LifeACT International also want to create a database for their affiliate artists to choose actors to audition for them. Any pay would be subject to the actor’s agreement with the affiliate artist.

Do I have to be a paying client of LifeACT International? Is there any advantage in being a coaching client?

Absolutely NOT! This opportunity is available to everyone.

Who are you looking for? What characteristics do compatible artists possess?

New Century TV/LifeACT International is looking for friendly, likable people who can build an incredible rapport with an audience. Our products are driven by high content and personality! We seek to paint a picture of an artist actively creating a more emotionally intelligent world, someone with a pioneering spirit. You are qualified if you are good-natured, insightfully intelligent, ready to be flexible and work in the moment. Most importantly, please have the ability to recognize and appreciate the greatness in others around you. This is the quality that makes the difference between amateurs living in an illusion and creative artists driving a productive enterprise forward!
